Austerity and the Modern Banker | Truthout

Austerity and the Modern Banker | Truthout
by: Simon Johnson, Project Syndicate | Op-Ed
from the comments:
These bankers and their brethren will walk away largely unscathed because they believe it their "right". Health care for all is not a "right", your "rights" under the First amendment are now subject to quantification based on the amount of money you can spend on speech. Your "rights" of privacy under the Fourth amendment are now easily dismissed if you become the subject of government scrutiny for any one of a number of reasons most of which have little bearing on whether or not your are a threat to the state. Your "right" of habeus corpus can even be dismissed or ignored by a willful and hostile government. But if a "too big to fail" banker gets his (or hers) nuts in a vice, it's their "right" to have the public bail their felonius ass out and they get to keep their pay and they don't face jail and they don't even have to answer any questions in public forum. Go ahead, repeat after me; "I live in a free country. I live in a free country."
